Mission Statement
The Sue Sofarnos Foundation was established in honour of the late Sue ‘Melli’ Sofarnos OAM with the purpose of supporting Australian Women’s Lacrosse, today and into the future. Posthumously, we aim to fulfill Sue’s dream of providing holistic & sustained support including (but not limited to) alleviating financial pressures for the players & staff as they prepare for campaigns now and into the future.
What we do
Financial Support
As Sue’s passion and life’s purpose was to support those Australian Players who have to self-fund their training, uniforms, travel, accommodation and associated costs when representing our Country, we believe that posthumously carrying out Sue’s plans for the future of Australian Women’s Lacrosse is a fitting way to establish her legacy that she would be extremely proud of.
Advocacy
Sue was a passionate advocate not only for the progression of Australian lacrosse at both a grassroots and international level, but for the equality and recognition of women in all sports, the importance of mateship & connection, and athlete mental health & wellbeing.
Holistic Support
It takes more than just funding for any team to be successful, and nobody knew this better than Melli. The foundation will aid the Australian Women’s Lacrosse team holistically, providing ongoing support to their general wellbeing, mental and emotional health, and of course, to strengthen team morale, connection & mateship, allowing them to be the best athletes that they can be.
